» Must-Watch Short Docs «
Short on time? Can’t stay awake to watch a 90-minute film like myself? Look no further than these incredible short documentaries on some of my favorite outsider artists, folk artists, and art environment visionaries.
I love a good documentary and I love a good documentary that ranges from 5 minutes to 30 minutes long but pack enough of a punch to leave you speechless.
The firs time I had ever seen "Possum Trot”, part of the ‘Visions of Paradise’ series on contemporary folk artists directed and produced by Allie Light and Irving Saraf, I couldn’t believe my eyes. There’s so much good unknown to me artists living in such a small area in Nova Scotia Canada, now we know about them thanks to “Folk Art Found Me”.
And don’t forget about the great Indigenous artist Norval Morrisseau. There’s so much good stuff to see and you could watch them all day!
All of these can be seen for free either on YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion and can all be found in one handy article below. Stay tuned for part two!
SHOUT OUT
Shout out to Patton Oswalt, a very funny, knowledgable man and pop culture aficionado. So it comes to absolutely no surprise that while appearing on the “Blocks Podcast with Neal Brennan” he name-checks the one and only Henry Darger, outsider artist and visionary author of a 15,000 page manuscript full of hundreds and hundreds of illustrated watercolor artworks. While talking about change and experience, Henry Darger is at one “extreme” end of the spectrum. Take a listen and enjoy.
