In 1912 the first of seven Grottos began and continued to evolve, day and night, year-round until 1954. As interest grew, an estimated 100,000 visitors come a year, the shrine grew as well. Underneath the millions of carefully cemented rocks and stones lay metal scaffolding that weaves in and around this small city block to create the beautiful mind-blowing exterior showcasing geology's finest from more than a dozen states and a handful of countries worldwide.
Depending on who you ask, the total estimated value of the world’s largest grotto is between $2mil and $4mil. The most expensive stone across the entire complex, some of the finest Italian marble can be found steps away from both melted-down glass bottles colored with crayons and gorgeous stained glass from Dobberstein's native Germany.

OH WORD?
With their intoxicating beauty and surreal charm, these artworks by Dinah Hanson-Carrillo, just listed in the FolkArtwork Collective shop, promise to captivate the hearts and minds of all. My favorite part of running FolkArtwork the past five years has been getting to know and meet so many uniquely talented and brilliant artists.
For the past few months fine art prints by Dinah have been available for purchase, but I’m beyond thrilled to be showcasing these original artworks with so much imagination and spellbinding embrace that I can’t even stand it.
Dinah is a Los Angeles born and raised musician turned artist. She mostly paints from memory or imagination but will often use the faces of musicians and actors to complete a piece. Her other influences are tarot cards, alternate universes, the surreality of Whittier, the idea of many lives living under the same sky, and dreams.
Each painting has a story. All works are in acrylic and some are repurposed canvases from thrift stores now featuring original, surreal, and new beautiful works of art.
SHOUT OUT
Shout out to self-taught artist Esteban Whiteside for creating the new artwork and merch for American rapper Nas, celebrating the 30th anniversary of his revolutionary debut album, Illmatic.
Extremely excited for Esteban as he continues to push boundaries with his artwork and his unwavering determination to highlighting what is wrong in this society with what is right.

FROM THE COLLECTIVE
JACKIE BRADSHAW is a neurodivergent, endometriosis warrior folk/outsider artist from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. She spent years working as a PSW until the birth of her son prompted her to start a small home daycare.
During this time, she utilized leftover paints from the kids to create mirror image paintings. She added ink or crayon to extract images from the splatters of paint that she perceived. Becoming deeply engrossed in this process she produced hundreds of paintings. Jackie has continued creating art as a means to quiet her mind and body.
