WATCHING AND READING

Here are a few things I’ve been reading this past week:
OH WORD?
» Olympics Opening Ceremony Goes Hard «
I’m not a big fan of the Olympics Opening Ceremony. It’s kinda long, kinda boring and in this particular case, I’ve taken four years of French — I think I get it. Look, I’m not a fan of Gojira either (the band not Godzilla), I’m clearly not a fan of Marie Antoinette, but put them together and what we got?! I need to call up my 8th grade French teacher and apologize because this was the best Opening Ceremony ever!
If you haven’t seen it yet, or even if you have seen it a dozen times like me and my children — do yourselves a favor and take a look:
How could you hate that? We need to make the Olympics, other major sporting events, and all highly televised weird again! And not the J.D. Vance kinda weird, the kinda weird where 18th century Queens are holding onto their heads weird while a French heavy metal band who lives in Brookyln are blasting a cover of a popular French Revolution song. That’s the kinda weird I’m looking for!
My son asks me for a good dream every night before bed and tonight I think I’m just going to remind him of this.
SHOUT OUT
» 5 Fast Facts About William Hawkins «
Shout out to William Hawkins, born July 27th, 1895 in Union City, Kentucky. One of, if not my favorite artists of all-time, and the reason I started FolkArtwork — after stumbling into an exhibit of his work in 2018 at the Figge Art Museum, I have never looked at art the same way and vowed to learn as much as I could about this self-taught master, and self-taught, folk and outsider artists alike. Happy birthday to the GOAT!
