Hand made rugs by Iranian self-taught artist Alireza Asbahi Sisi, known as "CC" (b. 1969, Tehran). His father, who worked as a tailor, passed away when CC was in 5th grade, leaving him as the breadwinner of the family: "CC" began working in a garment production facility in downtown Tehran.
FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK
Kiyavash Danesh, born in Tehran in 1966, left school after nine classes due to poor academic performance exacerbated by illness. He suffers from OCD, marked by intense obsessions and compulsive behaviors like counting and symmetry-seeking, which alleviate his inner anxieties. Despite treatment efforts over 40 years, including hospitalizations and various therapies such as strong sedatives and electroshock, his condition persists, prompting his nephew to take over his care.

Here are a few things I’ve been reading this past week:
» This was a fascinating insight into the difference between a well styled and well collected interior design of a home. An extremely superb take and great read by the very talented thrifter and writer Virginia Chamlee of “What’s Left”.
OH WORD?
» Home is Where The Hurt is «
"Home Is Where the Hurt Is" (May 19 - June 30) features the works of artists from Manila City Jail male dorm, created during art rehabilitation sessions conducted at the prison. Whilst the notion of "home" embodies warmth, love, and a sense of belonging; for others, home can be a battleground of neglect, abuse, or emotional turmoil.
Since its inception in 2022, Laya Digital Curators (LDC) has been running weekly art and music programmes in Manila City Jail men's dorm. The sessions facilitate the rehabilitation of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and provide them with a channel for healing and the possibility of an alternative livelihood through art.
Through art therapy, group dialogue, and community engagement, the artists of Manila City Jail confront the complexities of home-recognising that whilst home may have been a source of pain, it can also become a canvas for resilience, growth, and transformation.
With the participation of artist friends, Laya Digital Curators shed light on the brilliance of the marginalised, thereby challenging societal stigmas and promoting inclusivity within the art community.

A fantastic hand crafted antique elephant pull toy with minor wear and tear considering it’s age (early to mid 20th century) including a chip on it’s tail yet it still retains much of its original red, white and blue paint and it’s unique charm.
