"This case is part of the Mexican beadwork collection of over 600 pieces assembled by Elizabeth Morrow (1873-1955), mother of writer Anne Morrow Lindbergh, the wife of renowned aviator Charles Lindbergh. Morrow collected the objects between 1927 and 1930, when her husband, Dwight Morrow, Sr., served as U.S. ambassador to Mexico." — learn more and see more in this week’s paid newsletter

WATCHING AND READING
Here are a few things I’ve been watching this past week:
Here are a few things I’ve been reading this past week:
OH WORD?
As expected, SAGE Studio & Gallery’s latest exhibit “What the Scoop?” was a great success. I was honored and thrilled to be able to attend the opening reception on Friday, not only to have a nice cold beer and ice cream on a blistering hot Texas summer evening — but what a joy to get to see the artists with their artwork and a smile on literally everyone’s face.
“What’s the Scoop?”, a magazine-themed group show featured work by Henry McDonald, Montrel Beverly, Jennifer Williams, Whittie Dent, and Chris Cody. You can see all the artwork, some of which is available for purchase, here.
Below are a few photos from the opening in Austin, Texas.
More photos to come after I officially return from my fifteen hour drive back home. Stay tuned!
SHOUT OUT
Shout out to Polish folk artist Katarzyna Gawlowa (1896-1982), here aged 81 years old, painting in her signature style featured in this 1978 Polish television special. Her work was discovered in 1973, when she was 77, it was only then that she began painting on plywood and paper as she previously had painted only on walls, ceilings, doors and the stove, occasionally scratching off old motifs and replacing them with new ones.
