OH WORD?
There’s a very good chance you haven’t even heard of the new Boots Riley film “I Love Boosters”. Featuring a ragtag group of boosters (professional shoplifters who steal merchandise in bulk to resell it) comprised of actors Keke Palmer, Taylour Paige, Naomi Ackie, and Poppy Liu, this film is an absolute delight!
While receiving mixed reviews for its surrealism and/or “political” message (which is like, build community and join a union for better pay?), I found it right up my alley. It’s so silly, funny, and a visual feast that I really couldn’t get enough and can’t stop thinking about it.
Which is why I was thrilled to find this video of writer/director Boots Riley discussing his process for developing the movie's ideas and bringing it to life. A movie full of beautiful colors, lots of laughs, mini figures, claymation, and colors such as aquamarine and saffron — what more could you want?!
See my Letterboxd list of the most out there and bonkers films I’ve ever seen and absolutely love.
