FEATURED ARTIST OF THE WEEK
WATCHING AND READING
Here are a few things I’ve been watching this past week:
M.T. Liggett - An Artist With a 'Bite' - Hatteberg's People TV
The Monster House ("Obake Yashiki") at the Museum of International Folk Art
Here are a few things I’ve been reading this past week:
OH WORD?
I’m very pleased and excited to welcome Iowa artist Kathy Edwards Hayslett to the FolkArtwork Collective. I am thrilled to be able to work with artists from around the world — London, Canada, Washington, D.C., New York, and Los Angeles, to name a few places — but as an Iowan born and raised, I’m excited to add another Iowa artist to the mix!
KATHY EDWARDS HAYSLETT left her 20-year curatorial position to make art full-time in 2017. Her successful exhibition and sales record includes solo and group exhibitions in Chicago, Provincetown, and Denver, among others. In 2022-23, Kathy received a grant from the Iowa Arts Council for a catalogue of her work. Although she has a wonderful studio in Iowa, Kathy recently completed two residencies at Edgewood Farm in Massachusetts and Grand Marais Art Center in Minnesota.
While Kathy’s work may not be exactly self-taught, it’s very contemporary and somewhat visionary, as someone with a wealth of knowledge and experience curating work in a museum setting and continues to curate shows all across Iowa.
These works come floated in a white wooden frame and are ready to hang!
SHOUT OUT
Shout out to Kevin Farge who brings you a melody of peaceful songs from his album, “Low Tides”. These songs include “A View of Waves from Underwater,” “Training Montage,” and “Waves” // Check out more music from Kevin Farge on his Bandcamp where you can stream the entire album for free.
Really hoping to start sharing MORE music here on #FolkArtwork in 2024 as this page continues to grow and highlight talented visual artists past and present and the beautiful folksy singer/songwriters making magic toda
