FIND OF THE WEEK

ARTIST UNKNOWN Turtle Bench (1945; Pennsylvania) // Wood, hand paint; 17 inches x 10 inches x 5 inches via Labor and Glean

I am quite obsessed with this turtle. Ever since I first saw it, I was in love. The colors, the perfectly beat up paint and dirt, that red thumbtacks eyes and the curvature and personality of it all. Stunning!

This comes from an antique store of wonderful broken things, that is Labor and Glean out of Massachusetts owned and operated by Cathy McLaurin. She mentioned it was a “most joyful Brimfield find”, one of the bigger antique flea markets in the country.

This bench, the top and sides are absolutely perfect, but whoa take a look at the bottom! I believe it reads:

“Circa 1945,

This bench belong 2

my “Nana”

“Carrie Wagner(?)”

God still bless(?)

Thank You

“Jesus”

This piece is currently available for purchase via the fine folks at Labor and Glean, reach out to them directly on Instagram if interested.
