OH WORD?
» Rest in Peace Jim Bishop «
Rest in peace Jim Bishop (1944-2024), visionary artist and builder who single handedly created one of the most incredible man-made castles that you simply have to see to believe.
Bishop passed away at the age of 80 years old on November 21st at his home in Colorado surrounded by his loved ones. In 1969, Bishop bought land in Rye, Colorado and began constructing Bishop Castle with nearby stones for the next 50 years. Legend has it that as a kid, Bishop was climbing at a park and an adult told him to get down or be removed. Embarrassed and determined, Jim Bishop wanted to build a place where there were no rules and no adult would ever tell you to get down.
See video from my trip to Bishop Castle the summer of 2023:
The future plans for Bishop Castle are unknown. One of the most insane and terrifying places I’ve ever visited, this place should be visited by any and all to see. The fact that one man was capable of building this is truly inspiring. As the story goes, Jim’s son wanted to help his dad build it but Jim Bishop wouldn’t allow it, because he always wanted it to be a one man creation.
While the future of Bishop Castle remains unknown, one thing is for sure — Jim Bishop’s legacy will live on forever. Hopefully, by allowing many, many more people visiting, climbing, and experiencing the coolest castle I’ve ever seen.
“I think everyone should live like Jim Bishop. Build your castle. No matter how crazy people think you are, if there’s something in your gut and your soul telling you to do something, go build your castle.” — Chantelle Shoaee via KKTV

SHOUT OUT
Shout out to Judith Scott stealing these shoes and always bringing a smile to my face when I think of her wrapping anything and everything she can find to create one of her beautiful fiber sculptures.
FROM “FACES IN THE CROWD”
Lindsay Carraway is a self-taught artist who has honed her collage work, blending social, cultural, and political issues with the intricate dreamscapes of her schizophrenic mind. Her art brings to life stereotypes, controversies, and the human spirit, reflecting the terrain of both the world and her inner thoughts. Inspired by her experiences in the South and the challenges of mental, sexual, and physical abuse.
