You had me at hand-made drawing by Mary Tyler Moore!!!! This time next week, a lot of works owned by the late, great actress will hit the auction block. And as far as I can tell, this is the only piece of art that the artist created herself.
This original artwork was made by Mary Tyler Moore for Broadway Barks, an annual star-studded dog and cat adoption event founded by Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters to benefit New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies. A photograph depicting Mary Tyler Moore with Bernadette Peters at a Broadway Barks event is included in the lot.
While not necessarily self-taught or outsider art, I love seeing any artwork created by actors, musicians, who are obviously creative in their own right but not known for drawing or painting — see David Bowie or Kurt Cobain. Speaking of, what a great idea for some more in-depth works of art…
