HAPPY NEW YEAR
"A dying woman fades into streams of white in Charles Sims’ haunting symbolist painting The death of the year. But a baby emerges from the darkness – a new year beginning as the old one ends.
Sims was a respected portrait and landscape painter, whose style became increasingly mystical as his mental health declined after the traumas of World War I. He made The death of the year before the war, yet it anticipates the strangeness and emotional intensity of his later works." (per Te Papa)
FIND OF THE WEEK
If you’re looking for new good artwork, here’s a helpful hint for you — the Outsider Art Fair is coming in just about two months and they are starting to roll out their new exhibitors and will soon release the full list of galleries and artists who will be showcasing at the 2025 edition.
As someone who is a part of that group, I’m a little bias or extra excited, but for all the right reasons — this is some of the best artwork in the world and I love seeing and learning about new artists!
Case in point, the beautiful artwork of Ceilia Sammarco. A self-taught Italian illustrator and visual artist based in Rome, Sammarco’s artwork will be in New York City in February for the first time and I can’t wait to see it. Seeing artwork online is cool but seeing it in person is always so much more exciting!!! It doesn’t take much to get me excited!!!!!!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR.
This work is likely to be available for purchase via Espacio KB’s booth at the 2025 Outsider Art Fair.
