Ionel Talpazan, Untitled (1992) // Marker and crayon on posterboard; 33 x 25 inches

Unique! I won’t go out on a limb and say I’ve seen all of Talpazan’s works, but I’ve seen a lot! And like most of these artists who I’ve scoured the internet for as many of their works as possible, when I’ve seen a lot — I’m always looking for one that is totally different and… unique!

Enter this work by Ionel Talpazan, the Romanian self-taught outsider artist who lived in his New York City apartment from the 1980s until his passing in 2015.

Talpazan became fascinated with UFOs when, as an 8 year old boy in Romania, he believed he had seen a UFO. Throughout his life he drew, painted and sculpted UFOs. After his work was discovered, it was exhibited at the American Visionary Art Museum, and at museums in London, Berlin, San Francisco, Madrid, and other countries. (High Tramp)

I really like this work. I feel like most of Talpazan’s works I’ve seen show his view from outer space, or wherever these UFOs take him, after his abduction. I like this one as it shows the process, pre or mid abduction on a bright and beautiful sunny day. An abduction to someplace else kinda sounds nice right about now…

This piece is currently available for purchase via High Tramp.
