“For Object, Cahun altered a number of seemingly unrelated components—a doll’s hand, a cloud-shaped piece of wood, and a tennis ball painted with a wide-open eye—to produce a startling psychological resonance. The eye, in particular, a key Surrealist symbol of inner perception, also suggests female anatomy. On the base of the work, Cahun added the French phrase, ‘The Marseillaise is a revolutionary song, the law punishes counterfeiters with forced labor.’” (The Art Institute of Chicago)

Thank you!

To everyone who visited the FolkArtwork Collective booth, who said nice things, who bought artwork, who shared their stories, who listened to me chat about how my kids made stickers… thank you! And a big thank you to my wife for helping in the booth, to Laura and Rachel who helped watch over the booth while I ran to the bathroom or to grab a coffee.

But a big extra special thank you to the artists who trusted in me to showcase their artwork. Thank you to Pam Puck for shipping artwork from Italy, to Kay Le Seelleur Ara for making so much artwork that it was nearly impossible for me to just pick ten to show, to Day Brièrre meeting me out in the snow to drop off artwork on my way to New York and to Jackie Bradshaw and Reneesha Mccoy who continue to trust in me to show their artwork as part of the FolkArtwork Collective.

And one last special thank you to Linda DiLeva, Jordan Sullivan, and Esteban Whiteside for coming to the fair and bringing their artwork to be a part of the special weekend.

It was truly an honor and a dream to take part in the Outsider Art Fair another year and to show off, talk about, and sell artwork for some of my favorite artists (and now friends!) in the whole wide world.

We sold a lot of work! And we still have some things available for purchase, be sure to keep checking out this space, folkartwork.art, and our studio space at Mainframe Studios in the next week for more!

FROM THE COLLECTIVE

PAM PUCK (b. 1990) is a self-taught artist based in Ferrara, Italy. She works as a teacher and spends the rest of her time sculpting and drawing. Her work combines depictions of monsters, demons, aliens, self-portraits, and imagery from ancient art to create scenes that combat hopelessness with humor. By creating simplified figures, incorporating erotic elements, and using vibrant color palettes, Puck creates a unique symbolic language that’s deceptive in its playfulness.
