FIND OF THE WEEK
As one does (or should do) on a Monday morning, I was perusing the Heimwee Antiques collection on their website, and being mesmerized by all the incredibly beautiful antiques and folk art they offer.
Based out of San Francisco, Heimwee Antiques is known for “sourcing the most unique and peculiar items in the market”, and each time Humberto makes a new post of one of their finds, I fall more and more in love.
Today I want to highlight this Native American doctor’s bag, super rare and from the 19th century. The beads, the stitching, the imagery with the teepee and blue horse — it’s absolutely beautiful.
Perfectly aged and full of life, this is something you would expect to see in a museum, not somewhere you could find and take home with you in which your young children try to climb inside of it or hide their toys.
This work is currently available for purchase via Heimwee Antiques.
✌️ every wednesday, this bonus newsletter with bonus outsider art content, including exhibit listings, personal collection highlights, and news of the week, will be sent to paid subscribers. The weekly ‘This Week in Outsider Art’ newsletter that goes out every Sunday morning continues to and will always be free of charge — enjoy ✌️
ASK ME ANYTHING
This morning, for the first time ever I’ll be doing a little “Ask Me Anything” if anyone is interested, while I scour the internet for the artwork I will highlight on Instagram in the coming week. A little behind the curtain if you will, if anyone is at all curious what that may look like with a chance to ask me questions about how I got started in this racket, why I showcase the artworks I do, and anything else that you may find of interest!
Join me on Twitch this morning (July 31st) at 10:00am CT!
EDIT: likely postponed due to a storm last night knocking trees down leaving me without power today 🙃
