Per Aarne Anton: “It’s on our back porch now and will come to the NAMELESS Show end of January. There is a cowboy pictured on back of door.”

Henry McDonald (b. 1961) started painting at a day program and quickly became a prolific and devoted artist. His subjects are diverse, ranging from fruit to flowers to portraits. Regardless of what he portrays, all his work shares a similar joyful palette. McDonald also uses his art practice as a means to support his love of gift giving, frequently passing his work along to friends. When not making art, McDonald keeps busy; he enjoys bowling, going to the movies, and shopping.

Here are a few things I’ve been reading this past week:
OH WORD?
» Happy Public Domain Day «
On January 1, 2025, thousands of copyrighted works from 1929 entered the US public domain — including “The Skeleton Dance”, a 1929 Silly Symphony animated comedy horror short. Produced and directed by Walt Disney and animated by Ub Iwerks, the film features four human skeletons dance and make music around a spooky graveyard—a modern film example of medieval European “danse macabre” imagery.
Animation on The Skeleton Dance began in January 1929, with Ub Iwerks animating the majority of the film in almost six weeks. Iwerks pulled inspiration for the skeletons from “pictures drawn by the English cartoonist Thomas Rowlandson”.
As of January 1st, 2025 — it is free for all to copy, share, and build upon.
