FIND OF THE WEEK

Nek Chand Saini, Untitled (Small Face) (1980/90) // Clay, tile on wooden plaque 25 x 13 x 2.5 cm 10 x 5 x 1 in via Gallery of Everything

The other day I thought to myself, you know, I haven’t checked in with the good people at Gallery of Everything in London lately, they usually have some great work on display and excellent exhibits going on. And by golly, I was right! Thanks intuition and/or superpowers I have, or maybe aliens!

For a few weeks more, Gallery of Everything has a “A Summer of Gods and Goddesses” on display, which is an installation of sculptures and figures by the self-taught Indian artist Nek Chand Saini.

Born in India before the Partition, Saini was a refugee who went on to become a cultural figure of international renown. His gesamtkunstwerk was a secret maze of narrow walkways and sloping gardens, decorated with hand-crafted figurines of cement, ceramic, bangle and bottletop. — Gallery of Everything

If you don’t live in London, you can check out the works on display here, nearly twenty in total all uniquely beautiful like this “small face” above which I can only dream of having greeting me in the entry way of my home.

For available Nek Chand works, contact Gallery of Everything.
