FIND ❤️‍🔥F THE WEEK

ARTIST UNKNOWN (signed: CJACK) Untitled (ca. 1970; Pennsylvania) // Enamel on canvas board; 11” x 14” via Steven S. Powers

This work is fantastic. I’m not entirely sure what I’m looking at, but it comes from Steven S. Powers Gallery, so you know it’s got to be good. To me, it kind of looks like some hands, possibly with gloves on, pulling something out of the ocean or placing something on top of a mountain.

While all the fine artists of our day and previous days, and as art teachers we are taught to depth and blending, and value, there’s something so spectacular about a flat painting with a simple composition.

Which reminds me, this week I asked my art history students to rank artworks from most art to least art, and over half of them ranked this children’s drawing below as the most art…

It’s like they know and love me!!!

This work is likely available for purchase and will be on display at Steven S. Powers | Joshua Lowenfels Gallery soon.
