OH WORD?
A truly one of a kind documentary that has been on the top of outsider art fans watchlist for months is finally about to hit theaters.
‘This World is Not My Own’ tells the story of a woman who was born an artist, but had to overcome many obstacles to dedicate herself to her art. Nellie Mae Rowe, a self-taught artist born in the year 1900 in Fayette County, Georgia built a world she wanted to live in and left behind a vibrant, playful, and one of a kind oeuvre of artwork and stories that are now about to be told on the big screen.
See the official trailer below:
Chewing-gum sculptures, a wealthy gallerist, a firebrand wrestler, a notorious murder case and the segregated outh – it’s all part of Nellie Mae Rowe’s boundless universe. This World is Not My Own reimagines this self-taught artist’s world and her life spanning the 20th century.
As someone who has been a big fan of Nellie’s work and had a surface level knowledge of her work, I was fortunate to be able to see this uniquely stunning documentary and learn so much about one of the most brilliant American folk artist from the South. I hope you will be able to see it and enjoy it too!
