b-b-bonus this week in outsider art // march twenty-seventh
work by david pearce, meet the folk artist lucile smith and happy birthday to my dad
FIND OF THE WEEK
I can’t recall when I was first introduced to work by David Pearce, a contemporary artist from Cornwall, England, who creates some of the most stylish and wonderful expressive works of art. He is one of those artists who blows me away every time I see a new work by him. As he said so himself, this is, of course, a lamplight he found lying around his house painting random things as his work continues to evolve and push new spontaneous boundaries.
I’m not sure if this work is available for purchase but you could always reach out to David on Instagram and find out.
✌️ every wednesday, this bonus newsletter with bonus outsider art content, including exhibit listings, personal collection highlights, and news of the week, will be sent to paid subscribers. The weekly ‘This Week in Outsider Art’ newsletter that goes out every Sunday morning continues to and will always be free of charge — enjoy ✌️
SHOUT OUT
Happy Birthday to my dad. A big fan, supporter, and one of the first subscribers to this newsletter and buyer of art from the FolkArtwork Collective. Thanks pops.
B-B-BONUS
I love learning about new folk and self-taught artists. Last week, I featured the artwork below by Lucile Smith, which was coming up for sale at an upcoming folk art auction. I really liked the work but because I don't have much time to dedicate to reading and learning, I didn’t think much more about her.
Smash cut to the auction, and I couldn’t let this beauty pass me by. I purchased it and immediately wanted to know more about the artist. I learned that she was from Tennessee, made art most of her life — sometimes in the car as she waited for her husband Lonzo to be done with work, and her work was entered into an art fair where she took second place and then would start getting some recognition.
These stories and findings make me so happy. Below, you will find a little more about Lucile Smith and see ten works of art by one of my new favorite folk artists.
