heavy duty shoes you wouldn't want to eat and brazilian wood blocks from 1980
FIND OF THE WEEK
I fell asleep the other night while watching Werner Herzog eat his shoe. A little context, I fell asleep two nights ago after a long day of school, an exciting Iowa Hawkeyes basketball victory over LSU, one hot toddy, and my wiggling around on top of me.
I don’t have any dreams. Or nightmares. I wish I did, but I don’t. Pretty sure if I did, these would be the shoes that I would have seen that night.
These shoes come from the collection of Angela Howard, also known as @hattiemaudevintage on Instagram. Not only are they incredible, but they may also be on display this weekend in NYC at the “Art Without Intent Found Object Show.” If you are in NYC this weekend, I implore you to check this show out. For the past few years, some of the country's best collectors of antiques, oddities, Americana, and folk art have been putting on incredible shows of artwork by unknown artists with unknown purposes.
Per Angela, these shoes:
Made of leather, wood and steel these shoes are are Chestnut Crushing Clogs from the Haute Ardeches region in southern France. 1800-1900.
These shoes are not currently for sale, but expect to see so much more amazing treasures just like this at the “Art Without Intent Found Object Show.” Learn more here.

B-B-BONUS
This week my graphic design class is working on a print reduction project. It’s been a treat being able to learn and teach a new process to my students, as they continue to be bored by their computers and looking for new ways to make art in class that keeps them busy.
