Montrel Beverly, SAGE Studio artist, giving me a hug at the Outsider Art Fair in the pipe cleaner jacket he made especially for his trip to NYC

As you open this newsletter, I am still getting used to being back in the “real world” of parenting and teaching after a glorious but exhaustive trip to New York City for the 2024 Outsider Art Fair. I will have more to come on www.folkartwork.art and these newsletters, but if you haven’t yet be sure to tune into @folkartwork on Instagram, for photos and videos of all the beautiful and wonderful artwork I’ve been sharing in the past week.

FIND OF THE WEEK

Somehow, someway, this incredible ceramic ‘Medusa’ sculpture is still available for purchase. The artist Cherylle Booker has created a few similar ‘Medusa’ or ‘Monster’ pieces at Project Onward, those are no longer available, but I was reminded today how great this one was and couldn’t believe it hadn’t found a home yet.

“Cherylle Booker is a ceramic artist and painter. Booker takes inspiration from her personal and emotional life, as well as greek mythology. Combining these vast and expansive ideas and emotions, Booker translates these ideas into her pieces to create a discussion around universally shared experiences.” - Project Onward

While this is still available, I’d act fast if you are interested. Luckily though, Cherylle is open for commissions and makes plenty of these wonderful ceramic pieces. Available for purchase via Project Onward.

✌️ every wednesday, this bonus newsletter with bonus outsider art content, including exhibit listings, personal collection highlights, and news of the week, will be sent to paid subscribers. The weekly ‘This Week in Outsider Art’ newsletter that goes out every Sunday morning continues to and will always be free of charge — enjoy ✌️

B-B-BONUS
This Week in Outsider Art

While quite hard to do, I’m going to do my best here to highlight the greatest, most amazing, and favorite works of art I saw at the Outsider Art Fair this past weekend. It was another jam-packed event, full of great art and great people.

Later this week, I will share all my photos from the Outsider Art Fair, Christie’s Outsider Art Auction, the Iranian Art Brut exhibit at Cavin-Morris, as well as the Maria Prymachenko: Glory to Ukraine exhibit at the Ukrainian Museum.

Much, much more to come. In the meantime, enjoy my favorites.
