FIND OF THE WEEK
This will warm you up on a cold winter day like today! I love these kinds of works. One, it’s a hooked rug. Doesn’t get much better than that. Two, it was inspired by a piece of art by folk artist Leo Naugler.
Naugler is one of Nova Scotia's best-known folk artists and was featured in one the most charming documentaries about folk art, the 1993 film “Folk Art Found Me” which features Leo and his brothers, among many other folk artists from Nova Scotia — a place I can’t wait to visit one day.
Christina Brown grew up in the Annapolis Valley. Her greatest passion was recognizing deserving Nova Scotians for the Order of Nova Scotia, and she was successful in nominating a record 20 recipients. She made many hooked rugs for family and friends, and she was thrilled when Anne Murray became the proud owner of a rug she hooked. Christina used one of Leo Naugler's paintings of his famous flying pig to hook the small wall hanging featured here. — Black Sheep Gallery

B-B-BONUS
Project Onward is currently having its annual end-of-year clearance sale, selling some really great art at some really great prices. Over 300 works of art from some incredible artists out of the Chicago area could be yours.
Since 2004, Project Onward has been a welcoming home to artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities, “provid[ing] artists with disabilities the opportunity to create their work in a safe, supportive studio environment, with access to work space, materials, and professional guidance without being encumbered by cost.”
I will routinely share work by artists like Bill Douglas and Cherylle Booker, among other artists from Project Onward, on the @folkartwork Instagram account to thunderous “applause,” and I am thrilled to present a dozen more who are looking for a home here today.
Project Onward supports the endeavors of more than 60 extraordinary artists. Many have received accolades for artistic excellence. Artworks created at our studio in Chicago are widely exhibited, and can be found in private, and corporate collections throughout the world. — Project Onward
