“The project was commissioned by the City of Wilson to commemorate the area’s strong heritage. Local artist Christine Slechta, who is a talented Kraslice (what the Czechs and Slovaks call these delicate works of art) creator, chose the design and painted it along with help from the community. Every part of the egg and surrounding gazebo is Kansas made.” via Atlas Obscura

WATCHING AND READING
Here are a few things I’ve been watching this past week:
Here are a few things I’ve been reading this past week:
OH WORD?
Did you know that new original works by self-taught and non-conforming artists are being added to the FolkArtwork Collective shop weekly? With over 250 original works of arts and prints by fifteen different artists from Los Angeles to New York, Canada to London.
These artists, including but not limited to the new ones just uploaded this past week — watercolors by Jackie Bradshaw, collages by Lindsay Carraway, and Melody Jean Moulton (as seen here) — have a plethora of original work that continues to inspire and blow me away.
I am very fortunate to be working with these artists and I’m thrilled to be able to be a part of their journey and help them bring their artwork to you.
Jackie Bradshaw is a neurodivergent, endometriosis warrior folk/outsider artist from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. She spent years working as a PSW until the birth of her son prompted her to start a small home daycare.
During this time, she utilized leftover paints from the kids to create mirror image paintings. She added ink or crayon to extract images from the splatters of paint that she perceived. Becoming deeply engrossed in this process she produced hundreds of paintings. Jackie has continued creating art as a means to quiet her mind and body.

Lindsay Carraway’s work reflects a myriad of intertwining elements that blend social, cultural, and political issues. Combined with the intricate landscapes of her dreams and visions, shaped by the lens of her schizophrenic mind. Her work brings stereotypes, controversies and a focus on the human spirit to life. It’s a cross between the worlds terrain and the abstractions of her mind.

Driven by the freedom from preconceived notions and surrendering to her instincts, Melody Jean Moulton’s creative process unfolds organically. Guided by an innate sense of exploration and discovery, her artwork embodies a surreal and dreamlike quality. She intricately weaves together disparate elements to draw you in as they invoke a sense of wonder and intrigue.

SHOUT OUT
A few beautiful works by Ukrainian artist Dzvinya Podlyashetska, part of her “War Work” series.
For me it is important to see light during dark days, I always try to find it, that's why I paint dark things with bright colors. — Dzvinya Podlyashetska
